A new provider in Canada.

Virgin Mobile Canada
E-mail: ##########@vmobile.ca
Limitations: FAQ page indicated messages up to 140 characters long.

(And, yes, I did use the "Other" method to use the LJ feature...and I'm willing to help test if needed to get LJ support.)

Hello!

I'm currently a BlackBerry user, formerly a Hiptop user. A common feature for both of these devices is the ability to directly receive push-emails to a device-specific email address, in addition to the usual SMS text messages. Push-emails are often included in one's monthly plan (as opposed to per-occurrence fees for SMS), and they have a much higher size limit. Would it be possible to either expand the 'Other' category to allow a user-specified size limit (this is in the to-do list, but unimplemented), or add a push-email option with a large character limit?

I have paid account, and I want to use send text messege option. However, it does not work with LMT (Latvian Mobile Telephone) (from http://www.livejournal.com/tools/textmessage.bml?mode=details )
LMT (from: 30, msg: 120, total: 120)
Sent by addressing the message to number@smsmail.lmt.lv

1) IT SHOULD NOT BE A PHONE NUMBER BEFORE "@" it may be anything else - for instance, nickname. But that part is up to the user.

2) it is NOT @smsmail.lmt.lv CORRECT = @sms.lmt.lv

P.S. for reference http://www.lmt.lv/en/?pageid=2007001007

It will be published to Zilla on Friday, hopefully.

Below is the offical notice I received today from Cingular (I'm an employee there):

Please note that in accordance with the re-branding initiatives, the legacy e-mail domain for blue text messaging will be disconnected on 4/24/2005. Currently the domain address is “@mobile.att.net” and will change to “@mmode.com”. Customers may begin using the new address configuration your10digitnumber@mmode.com immediately.

it would be nice if you could put up the possibility to use the text message thingy for my german provider, eplus!

* The name of the service: ePlus, Germany

* The e-mail address which is used to send messages: NUMBER@smsmail.eplus.de

* Any limit on the length of the name of the sender, the subject, and the message: 3 x 160 = 480 characters

* Any other information you may have: if the message exceeds 160 characters a second message is sent, after 320 characters another, the maximum length is 480 characters

thanks in advance!

Hello, I'd like to make a request for the messaging service.

* The name of the service (be specific): Claro (Brazil)
* The e-mail address which is used to send messages: (code of area within the country - two numbers)+XXXXXXX@clarotorpedo.com.br
* Any limit on the length of the name of the sender, the subject, and the message: Hmm I really don't know about character limits, sorry.

Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry if it has been already requested, even though I checked the To-Do and Unable to Provide lists.

Hi, I'm sorry if this had already been discussed/solved, but I couldn't find the answer I wanted.
(I have read these recent posts: this and this and skipped back some, and this one in To-Do)

Problem is, messages being sent to cell-phone were all "?:Invalid Message Text" instead of correct messages.

I'm using the service provider Vodafone Japan(Central).
Since Vodafone Japan no longer allow people to have E-mail addresses with phone numbers such as "09012345678@c.vodafone.ne.jp", currently users have "example@c.vodafone.ne.jp" addresses.
Thus, I entered my username instead of phone number in the Text Messaging area in Profile Page, chose my Provider, and send Messages to my own cell-phone. (Messages were both Japanese only and English only(non-ASCII), short words i.e. "test")
While I could receive messages as E-mail, texts inside were always "?:Invalid Message Text".
I also tried SP:Other, Phone number: example@c.vodafone.ne.jp, but the result was the same.
The Encoding they are using is ISO-2022-JP, I think.

Is there any solution for this problem?

Thank you!

And here is a full list of domains of Vodafone Japan.Collapse )

I have read a few posts before mine about this problem but no one seems to know how to fix it.

The the problem: Virgin Mobile UK, when you try to send messages to a Virgin Mobile UK number via LJ you get an error reply from virgin.
I contacted Virgin Mobile about this and this is what they said:

"Thanks for your email to Virgin Mobile regarding sending text messages from a
website to a Virgin Mobile phone number.

We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing problems receiving text messages
    from this source.

Virgin Mobile discontinued the VirginXtras service earlier this year and
replaced it with Virgin Bites. All email or web addresses that end vxtras.com
will no longer work and senders would receive an error message when trying to
    send anything to that address."

I have contacted Virgin Mobile UK in response to that asking for the new domain that emails should be sent to, I will post the reply I get from them as soon as I recieve it. If the reply is that they have not put in place an alternative service, perhaps the support for Virgin Mobile UK should be removed?

I don't know how long ago it occurred, but Vodacom changed their web interface, which doesn't seem to work anymore. Noting the code segment referring to vodacom in the LJ text messaging module...

elsif ($provider eq "vodacom" )
{
post_webform("http://websms.vodacom.net/send.php3", {
"cellnum" => $self->{'number'},
"message" => $msg->{'message'},
},$errors);
}

...the URL supplied above no longer exists.

Does anyone know any new ways to access vodacom phones? Looks like their web gateway is subscriber-only now, but do vodacom phones have a publicly-known email address equivalent?

Hey!

I enabled the message function on my userinfopage about 3 days ago.
I use T-Mobile Austria (it's in the list of your currently supported providers) and I tried to test it and sent myself a txtmessage using the service but they txtmsessage never arrived. I tried it a few more times but nothing helped.
I wrote my number in the space without any spaces so that can't be the problem!

It would be nice if you could check that/help me!
Thx ♥

The address of the form for sending SMSes to North-WestGSM Megafon subscribers
has changed to (most probably only the domain name was affected)

http://www-old.nwgsm.ru:8101/sendsms.htm

The form is then submitted to

http://www-old.nwgsm.com/cgi-bin/sms/smsgate

I'm not sure, but this seems a likely reason why LJtext fails for this provider now

The LJ text message interface allows up to 145 characters to be typed. However, Optus Australia has a maximum limit on SMS of 114 characters and we are therefore receiving a lot of truncated messages. Are there plans to make the input box "aware" of how many characters are allowed based on the network selected by the recipient?

I have a telus mobility phone, and while the text messaging service sends the entire message fine, it sends only the message and not the username. I've set the service to be available to users on my friends-list only, but the users seem to expect that their name is being sent because they see "From: [username]" above the entry field for the message.

As a result, I get a lot of messages that are innocently anonymous - this is frustrating.

So if I'm logged into LJ and I send a message of "Test Message!" through the textmessaging service to myself, what I see on the phone resembles this:

6/10 4:33pm
MESSAGE
-
Subj: LJ:
Test Message!

My username isn't even there.
It's supposed to be, isn't it? Or am I wrong?

Hello!
We have faced small problems in use of your service.
At use of Primtel operator, instead of words typed in the webform in cyrillic, on a cellular telephone there come only question marks.
When I simple send email in cyrillic on the email gateway, messages come in a normal state.
I want to remind you, that messages on the email gateway should come in Windows-1251 or Koi8-R codepage.

There are also some new moments.
The operator under the name of MTS has redeemed company Primtelefon and now she officially is called as MTS, but the problem consists in that MTS has many offices on all territory of Russia and it can create mess among her users. Therefore if you will change the name of the operator leave it Primtel, or make something like MTS.Sakhalin or MTS(Primtel). In any case the address of the bridge has not changed. But the new webform for sending messages through the Internet has appeared. It now http://sakh.mts.ru/club/sms/

Many thanks.

Further to iicarrii's earlier post, the new Text Messaging Interface was made live about a week ago, which fixed lots of problems, and added support for many new providers.

For those of you who've been having the "There may have been a problem sending your message through the email gateway" problem, we've changed the error message to be a little more descriptive so that we can fix this more easily. If you were previously having this error, please try sending yourself a message, and commenting on this post reporting the error you're having, along with the name of your provider. The error will be in the form of:

"There may have been a problem sending your message through the email gateway. The error reported was: SMTP RCPT command failed: at /home/lj/cgi-bin/LJ/TextMessage.pm line 1871"

Please let us know if you have any questions related to the new version or any of the changes. For requesting a new service provider or for any other problems you may be having, please make a new post to the community so we can address that on its own. Keeping things tidy in the community! :)

Thank you for using LiveJournal.com.

More information on what steps were taken to help improve Error Handling/Messages will be explained when we announce the version is live.

Please let us know if you have any questions related to the new version or any of the changes. For requesting a new service provider or for any other problems you may be having, please make a new post to the community so we can address that on its own. Keeping things tidy in the community! :)

    Hello,
Since Vodafone PT isn't listed, I went and gathered all the information I could, soooooo here it is:

    Service: Vodafone Portugal
    How to: number@sms.vodafone.pt
Limits: It depends on the mobile phone, if it supports EMS, than you can type whatever you like, if it only supports SMS, then restrain yourself to 160c. There are no limits to a number of messages that you can receive.

    Thanks

    Greetings from Russia!
Our community would like to ask you to add support of our cell operator. The name of operator - "Primtel". Messages can be transferred in two ways. The first is to send messages on the email gateway in a format 7902XXXXXXX@sms.primtel.ru where 7902XXXXXXX is a phone number. Attention! Messages should be in Windows-1251 codepage.
Also there is an opportunity of sending messages through the Internet from http://www.primtel.ru/sms/send.shtml address, but in this case if I am not mistaken, there can be problems with quantity of sent messages and problems with little bit silly organization of the form of sending messages.
In any case many thanks. We wait with impatience!

Hey, I just saw this feature today and it seems pretty cool. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work... I'm uncertain if it is because of the same problem of this post or different:

See, I live in Japan, and go through J-Phone (which is listed as supported). However, J-Phone was purchased by Vodafone back in... October? Either way, the way you have set up to send mails (phone number @jp-t.ne.jp) will not work anymore-- the mail addresses are @t.vodafone.ne.jp

---> Question, does the 'phone number' box have to be a number? With Vodafone Japan one isn't required to have their mail address as their phone number and in fact many people (such as myself) don't use it.

---> also, something to keep in mind about J-Phone/Vodafone Japan... see the 't' in the mail address? that stands for the area of Japan you're in. If you're not around Tokyo then it won't be a T, but k or h or q or whatever. ...Geez, it sounds like it'd be a bitch to implement... maybe just put a note for lj users who don't live around Tokyo (eh, are there any??)

Well, good job, hope this helps some.

I know that Metro PCS isn't listed but that it is in the To Do List and I should use "Other" until you get around to adding it, but I did notice one other thing that you may want to update. When I tested the text message by sending one to myself, it would only let me enter in 85 characters. My phone with MetroPCS lets me enter in 172 characters on a normal text message through my phone itself (not counting the phone number I enter, or my signature which is 8 characters so the total I guess would actually be 180).

I would like to know if this could be changed (from 85 to 180) at the same time as you do the other Update (or sooner since you seem to not have gotten around to an update lately at all). I don't know if the total characters allowed changes with each MetroPCS phone or not, or perhaps each Metro location since there are only a few service areas. Anyone else have one that can't do this many characters?

This would give me 2 times the amount of characters people could enter in a message to me which is quite a significant difference, so a change in the limit would be very nice.

    Thanks.

Okay, as stated in this comment, Telia appears to be the only Danish provider offering the textmessage-by-email feature for free, so... I did some browsing and some googling around on telia.dk, and found this FAQ page, which apparently says that 'e-mail textmessages' should be sent to xxxxxxxx@gsm1800.telia.dk, with the x's being the number. Nothing about limits and such though. And since I'm using Orange, I'm not able to test this. :/

I tried putting my linguistic skills on a test with the Swedish page as well, but couldn't find anything of apparent interest there.

    Hi!

Can you add for your service subj? It is absolutely free for me and all senders.

People can send sms via e-mail or via Internet page.

    Via e-mail:

    address - sms@pcom.ru
subject - telephone number with city code, without country code, only digits.
body - message, not more 120 latin or digital symbols, plain text (not html, not attachment).

    Via Internet page:

address and action of form: http://www.pcom.ru/online.phtml
Message not more 120 latin or digital symbols

People can send messages by cirillyc simbols, but only 80 symbols.

I receive only messages without ip-addres, e-mail or somethink more about senders.

I'm free for testing, but my english is bad and I have not lot of Internet connections.

    Thank you!

    Hi everyone -

It's been months since we've communicated anything to you all and even longer since we have made any changes. There have been other side projects going on not to mention the fun involved in day-to-day life. :) At any rate, we apologize for the delay...and actually we're quite embarrassed things have gotten a little out of control.

Aaron and I will be working hard over the next couple weeks to get everything back in order around here and have the next update live for the New Year. After this coming weekend the ToDo List should show all the changes we will be working on. Its pretty much a mess right now as we are working to get things in some kind of order but we will get there.

If you're wondering what changes are going to be made, please wait until after this weekend to check out what we have on our plate. Ill repost once the ToDo List is up to date.

One more thing - some of you may have noticed we started screening comments in the community. This is just an attempt to have better control over what is happening in the community and to stay on top of everything. Occasionally we will run across comments from users that we never ever saw, so we are trying to prevent that.

If you have any other questions, please let us know. We will be in touch as we progress towards the next update.

    Thank you for using LiveJournal.com!

Hi there! One of my friends(?) randomly decided to get me a paid account for Christmas, so here I am. I'm addicted to text messaging and... here goes. I'll do whatever I can to help you guys.

I'm with Centennial Wireless; I think the relay is listed as www.centennialcom.com, which redirects to www.centennialwireless.com now. There's a link in one of the menus to what they call the mobile message center; link - this one leads to this one, which has the... box to fill in. I'm not technical at all and I have a tendency to crash computers more often than I fix them, so when it comes to this level I'm confused. Whenever I try to send myself a text message from my user info, it gives me the error message -

There was some error contacting the user's text messaging service via its web gateway. The message was most likely not sent.

I'm thinking that it's because the web address has changed... what do you think?

    Greetings!

Please consider adding A1/Telekom Austria support to LJ's SMS service.

There is already a web based SMS site for A1 available at: http://www.a1.net/CDA/phase3/sms/0,2818,14-813-html-de,00.html

Thanks a bunch, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi, As can be seen, I'm from Singapore.

Currently, lj doesn't support text messaging from Singapore providers, and I was wondering if we could do something about that ;)

My mobile provider is MobileOne. It supports online text messaging and this is the page for internet texting.

    http://miworld.com.sg/message/internetsms.jsp

am crossing my fingers hoping it works :D

    Thank you iicarrii :)

Yet another new service provider to add, please.

Company: Cellular One West (note that this is different from Cellular One Dobson)

    Address: cellnumber@mycellone.net

Webpage: http://www.cellularonewest.com/ (form for text message submission is on the front page)

    Message limit: 160 characters

There doesn't seem to be a standard "form" for requesting that providers be added to the list....if you need more information than that, I'll do whatever I can to find it for you.

I decided to try out the text message feature and entered my number and
got a friend to test it and have since had two other friends test it
and I've received nothing.I saw frontier post
as they are also with Optus and in Australia but I didn't understand
how to make it work.So if anyone could help me I'd be most grateful.

A recent support request brought to my attention a problem that can occur when a user enters their phone number with spaces in, the way you'd write it down for another human. In that request, the user pointed out that sending a particular user a message resulted in receiving one bounce message from the service provider for each segment of the number.

(I tried to duplicate this with Fido Canada, and only received the expected "there may have been a problem" error. I'm not yet sure which provider caused the bounces.)

Anyhow, while the format of the local part of the email address on email-based services is hard to predict, I think it's a pretty safe bet that spaces will never appear in there. I'd like to try to rejuvenate bug 1316 to fix only that, in order to not awaken bug 241 whose scope is IMO too large to ever get resolved.

I figured I should mention it here before I touch it there, though. Any concerns or objections to stripping only spaces from only email-based providers?

It says that Optus is supported but I can't seem to get lj text messaging to work for me. I choose 'Optus' in the drop down menu and tried my mobile number in its domestic version (04--------) and its international version (614--------). I also tried sending a message under Other (to 614--------@optusmobile.com.au) but with no success. I know that that is my phone's email address because when I send MMS to email, that is the sender address.

Any ideas as to why it's not working?
