Welcome to the community, one and all.

I'm looking for one of two things out of the people here:

1.) People who can submit information on new providers and who are willing to act as guinea pigs so we can test our new additions. It won't hurt - much.

2.) People who are willing to help build the new gateways, either by collecting information on the details of the provider's gateway or by banging out the code itself. Either one is relatively easy, it just requires taking a few minutes and actually doing it.

Anyone's welcome to come and help out in either regard; all I ask is that if you say you'll do something that you actually try to keep to your word. I know, everyone has personal issues and a life beyond LJ (gasp!) but it shouldn't take much time - so try to actually get things done, and in a timely fashion. :)

So, everyone, let's dig in. I'm going to compile a list of all of the gateways that need to be configured as well as what info has already been sent in; I'd like people to start volunteering to make the changes and/or fill in the blanks!

What we need to set up a new gateway:

Email gateways:
- the email address to send to (usually number@something.company.com)
- the limit on length of subject, body, sender, etc.
- any notes on sending it

Web gateways:
- the url of the actual receiving script
- the recipient's address (usually a username or the phone/pin number)
- the same info on limits of the text fields
- any extra fields that need to be submitted to the form, along with their values
- any extra notes or comments to be aware of

If you want to work on an entry, please add a comment to it saying "I got this one!" or something similar so that people can tell at a glance if it's being worked on or not. I don't want anyone to waste effort by duplicating someone else's work.

Thanks!

I've already completed the code and tests for these 2 providers using the Lycos SMS web gateway. It's at work though, so I'll submit on Monday, unless I can dial in before then.

(also works for Orange and One 2 One I believe too but not tested.)

If you aren't changing the core of LJ::Textmessage itself, but just submitting a new provider section, I'd prefer if you'd send it to me ( lj_textmessage@livejournal.com ) as two separate files, one as providername.specs and one as providername.do. You can post questions and code up on here if you'd like, for code reviews, to get help with something tricky, etc. However, I'm going to insist for now that any official submissions get emailed to me at the address above. I'm not trying to keep them secret, I'm trying to keep my job manageable. :)

In other words, if I was submitting info for Foobar Text Paging Incorporated to myself, I'd send two files that looked something like this:

foobar.specs:

'foobar' => {
  'name' => 'Foobar Text Paging Inc',
  'notes' => 'notes go here',
  'fromlimit' => 54,
  'msglimit' => 14632,
  'totlimit' => 7,
},

foobar.do:

elsif ( $provider eq "foobar" ) {
  send_mail($self, {
    'to' => "$self->{'number'}\@foobarpagers.com",
    'from' => "$msg->{'from'}",
    'body' => $msg->{'message'},
  });
}

I'm planning on writing a script to automatically load in the code you send me (and that I write myself) and in order to do that I need to have them broken up like that. I'm trying to make the maintenance process as simple as possible... just trust me on this one. :)

Thanks!

P.S. Changes to the LJ::Textmessage core can be sent as diffs of the latest version. At some point I may be breaking the core into multiple chunks as above and then diffs can just be sent of the appropriate chunk. Until then, a diff of your version and the latest posted, or your entire revision, will be accepted.

Is there any place, where we can get the latest codes that the users of this community has submitted?

Well, I've gotten my packaging scheme set up and tested and everything seems to work quite nicely. I've already incorporated one addition (from tsutton) and am eagerly awaiting more. :)

Once I have a permanent internet connection back (in a week or two... damn Northpoint!) I'll start writing additions myself, but at this point I can't stay online for long, so I can't afford the time online to research the details of the various services. Until then, I need everyone's help even more than usual - so please, take on any open requests and let's see just how fast we can clear these up.

ONWARD! ;)

P.S. Those non-perl coders out there can still help a lot! Go online and research the details of the various requests (i.e., addresses, urls, form fields, max field lengths, etc.) and post them up! That'll save the perl coders out there precious time and will let 'em concentrate on cranking out code. Thanks!

(Frankly, the researching part is the most time-consuming by far, the actual code needed to incorporate a new provider is minimal.)
