Optus user: Text messaging on lj not working at all.

I've had a paid account for over 2 years now and I have never been able to get the text messaging feature to work.

I am with Optus, At first I thought the number may be incorrectly typed in (with or without country code, etc). Either way, I've tried both in the past and neither have worked.. If someone could please tell me reasons as to why it has never worked for me and how it can be fixed I would really appreciate it.
